Chicken wings are one of the greatest pot luck foods, dare I say even better than loaferole? When trying to recreate Marge’s Wasabi Buffalo Wings I wanted them to taste “Eastern” (whatever that means) while also being as bright green as possible to match the foods appearance in the episode. Fortunately, wasabi paste is already a delightful bright green and, really, who doesn’t enjoy eating bright green chicken?
Ingredients
- Chicken Wings
- 1 Tube Wasabi paste
- Dash of Salt and pepper
- 1 Tablespoon Garlic powder
- 2 Tablespoons Soy sauce
- 1 Teaspoon Sesame oil
- 2 Tablespoons Honey
Directions
Combine all sauce ingredients with chicken wings inside a large plastic freezer bag. Leave to marinade for at least a few hours for the flavors (and all important green color) to fully set in.
Bake chicken wings in oven at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until chicken reaches internal temperature of 165 degrees.
Even though the Wasabi Buffalo Wings turned out to be very close to the color I wanted, the guests at the pot luck dinner I attended were less enthused about eating them than the residents of Springfield. Apparently bright green meat looks like something you should avoid. Several people asked me “what’s wrong with them?” and “why are you trying to poison us?” and even when I explained that the wings were delicious and NOT poison they still went for the casseloaf instead!
The taste was quite good, not too overpowering of wasabi, so I would consider using an additional tube of wasabi paste next time to really ramp up the flavor. Of course, if I did make this recipe again it would only be for personal consumption since others are apparently “too good” to eat my delicious green chicken. Perhaps next time I’ll just show up with Butterscotch Chicken instead.
