Not that I had any reason to doubt the authenticity of The Simpsons, but you can totally buy Wolfgang Puck’s “Rice Crispy Bites” at the airport. I spotted these on a recent trip to Mexico:
Sadly they were not wasabi-infused with a portobello glaze, so I’m left to recreate this recipe on my own. Again!
Ingredients
Wolfgang Puck’s Recipe
- 1/2 Cup Rice Krispies
- 6 Marshmallows
- 1 Tablespoon Butter
- 1 Tablespoon Wasabi Powder
- 1 Portobello Mushroom
Marge Simpson’s Recipe
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 Bag of Marshmallows
- 1/4 Cup of Butter
- 1/2 Cup M&M’s
Directions
Wolfgang Puck’s Recipe
Heat saucepan on low heat and add marshmallows. Next add wasabi powder until combined. Quickly add Rice Krispies until combined. Pour into a well-butter dish. Finely dice Portobello mushroom. Combine with water in a saucepan and reduce until it creates a glaze pour on top of cooled wasabi-infused Rice Krispie square.
Note: I intentionally didn’t glaze the entire Rice Krispie square because I wanted to taste the components of the wasabi part and the wasabi-glaze part separately and together.
Marge Simpson’s Recipe
This is my standard Rice Krispie Square recipe, with M&M’s added at the end. Heat a large saucepan on low heat and add butter, then slowly add marshmallows a handful at a time. Melt the marshmallows until they are completely liquid. Add Rice Krispies into the still hot mixture. Quickly combine ingredients before finally adding M&M’s. Pour into a well-buttered pan.
Two things I learned from trying these recipes, neither of them surprising. Adding M&M’s to Rice Krispie squares makes them even more delicious. Adding wasabi and mushrooms does not. I know I shouldn’t be surprised about the wasabi/Portobello version tasting bad, I was just hoping somehow it would taste good, sort of a salty-sweet kind of thing. I mean, if Wolfgang Puck is selling it then it must be good, but alas this was not what I was hoping for.
I’m open to suggestions on how to improve this so that it would actually be tasty? Should I use less wasabi? Try for a sweeter glaze with mushrooms and some sugar? Stop worrying about this because there is no way to make it taste good? There are so many possibilities, I just need to get to the Puck-mobile!

I’m not sure, but I would really like to see what the Puck-mobile looks like.
10-foot hoagie kept behind the radiator for a week
I don’t currently live in a place with a radiator. So what I’m thinking is leave it on the deck so it will get plenty of sunlight and see what happens there.
